At the Dentist in France

Book a check-up, describe a toothache, understand the dentist in the chair and ask for a quote before any big work.

French dental practices are usually booked on Doctolib or by phone, and you pay with your carte Vitale so the Assurance Maladie reimburses its share. Check-ups, scale and polish and fillings are reimbursed at around 70% of a fixed rate, but crowns, implants and orthodontics cost far more, so the dentist must give you a devis (written quote) first. Your mutuelle covers part of the rest, and the 100% Santé scheme offers some crowns with nothing left to pay.
