A Room with a Lake View: Booking a Hotel in France
Simple phrases to book a hotel room by phone, check in, ask for what you need and check out.
In French hotels breakfast is often not included in the room price, and every guest pays a small taxe de séjour (tourist tax) per night, collected by the hotel for the town. Check-in usually starts mid-afternoon and you're expected to leave the room by 11 h or noon, though most hotels will keep your luggage. Staff use vous, and saying « Bonjour » before anything else matters.
