Breakfast the French Way
Have breakfast with a French friend at home, then order coffee, croissants and orange juice at a café like a local.
A French breakfast is light and sweet: a tartine of baguette with butter and jam, a croissant or pain au chocolat, and coffee, often drunk from a bowl at home. In a café, « un café » is an espresso and « un crème » is coffee with milk; many cafés offer a formule petit-déjeuner with a hot drink, juice and a pastry. Standing at the counter (au comptoir) is often cheaper than sitting on the terrace, and card payment is accepted almost everywhere.
