Power Cuts and Calling an Electrician in France

Work out whether the power cut is yours or the whole street's, describe the fault, and get an electrician to fix it safely.

In France the power network is run by Enedis, whatever company sends your bill (EDF, TotalEnergies, Engie…), so for a cut in the whole street you call the Enedis breakdown line or check its app, not your supplier. Inside your home, check the tableau électrique first: when the main disjoncteur or a breaker trips, people say « ça a disjoncté » or « les plombs ont sauté ». Older flats often need a mise aux normes (bringing the wiring up to standard), and an electrician should give you a written devis before starting.
