A Game of Chess in the Park
Ask for a game, name the pieces and talk your way through a friendly chess match in French.
Chess is popular in France: many towns have a club affiliated with the Fédération française des échecs, and in Paris people play on the stone tables of the Jardin du Luxembourg. The French names of the pieces can surprise you: the queen is usually « la dame », the bishop is « le fou », literally the fool, and the knight is « le cavalier ». Between players in a park or club, tu is normal.
