Your First Day at a French Office

Introduce yourself, find your desk, survive the coffee break and lunch, and start fitting in with your new team.

In many French offices colleagues switch to tu almost at once, while the boss or HR may stay on vous, so follow their lead. Lunch matters: people eat together at the company canteen or with meal vouchers on a card like Swile, and the coffee break at the machine is where you get to know the team. Newcomers often hold a « pot d'arrivée » (welcome drinks and snacks) in their first weeks, and on day one you'll usually get a badge and computer logins.
