Sorting Out Problems at a French Hotel
Politely but firmly get a broken air conditioner, a wrong room or a bill error fixed at the front desk.
French hotels usually let you into your room from 2 or 3 pm and expect you to check out (libérer la chambre) by 11 am, though most will keep your luggage. On top of the room rate you pay a small taxe de séjour per person per night, set by the town, and breakfast is often not included. Staff respond best to calm, polite requests with vous and « je voudrais »; if nothing happens, asking for le responsable is normal.
