Nailing a Job Interview in France

Introduce yourself, talk about your experience and ask the right questions about contract, salary and start date in a French job interview.

French interviews are formal: you shake hands, use vous throughout and wait to be invited to sit. Expect questions about your CV and lettre de motivation, and be ready to state your prétentions salariales as an annual gross figure (brut annuel). Ask whether the job is a CDI (permanent) or a CDD (fixed-term), how long the période d'essai (probation) lasts, and mention your notice period (préavis) if you're currently employed.
