Living on Your Own in France
Talk about life alone in a small French flat: the good bits, the lonely evenings and the everyday chores.
More than a third of French households are one person, especially in big cities, where many live in a « studio » or a « T1 » (one-room flat) of 20 to 30 m². Neighbours in apartment buildings often know each other only by sight, so saying « bonjour » in the stairwell matters. Living alone in France means handling your own paperwork too: the electricity contract, home insurance (« assurance habitation », required for tenants) and your internet « box ».
