New Year's Eve with Friends in Paris
Plan the 31st, count down to midnight, swap bises and wishes, and work out how to get home.
The French celebrate le réveillon du 31 décembre mostly with friends: a long dinner or a party, champagne at midnight, then bises all round and « Bonne année ! ». In Paris the big show is on the Champs-Élysées, and some metro lines run all night. French people keep sending their vœux (New Year wishes) until the end of January, usually adding « et surtout la santé ».
