Parking in a French City
Find a space, pay the meter or the app, and deal with tickets, blue zones and the car pound.
Street parking in most French city centres is paid at an horodateur (pay-and-display machine) or through an app such as PayByPhone, usually on weekdays and Saturdays only. If you don't pay you get a forfait post-stationnement (FPS) set by the town, which people still casually call « un PV ». In a zone bleue parking is free but time-limited and you must show a disque de stationnement; cars left on delivery bays or residents-only spots can be towed to the fourrière.
