Getting a French Phone Plan
Walk into a phone shop, compare plans, keep your number and leave with a working SIM.
The four big operators in France are Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free, plus cheaper brands like Sosh or RED. Most SIM-only plans are « sans engagement » (no minimum contract) and you'll need ID and a RIB for the monthly direct debit. To keep your French number when you switch, call 3179 from your phone to get your RIO code and give it to the new operator, which cancels the old plan for you.
