Handing In Your Notice the French Way

Announce your resignation to your manager, negotiate your notice period and leave with the right paperwork.

On a French permanent contract (CDI) you resign in writing, usually by lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception or a letter handed over in person, and then work a notice period (préavis) set by your collective agreement, often one to three months. Resigning normally gives no right to unemployment benefit, unlike a rupture conventionnelle, a negotiated exit the employer is free to refuse. On your last day you receive your solde de tout compte, a certificat de travail and the attestation for France Travail.
