Negotiating Your Salary in France

Ask about the pay range, talk brut versus net, weigh the perks and land a better offer with a French recruiter.

French salaries are discussed in brut annuel (gross per year), often shortened to '45K', and net take-home pay is roughly 22 to 25% lower after social contributions. Beyond the base, ask about a treizième mois (an extra month's pay some employers give), a part variable, tickets-restaurant, the company mutuelle, RTT days and télétravail. A CDI is a permanent contract with a période d'essai (probation), and many professional roles come with statut cadre.
