Allergies in Spain
Explaining food allergies in restaurants, spotting a reaction and getting hay-fever relief in Spain.
Spanish restaurants are required to tell you about the 14 main allergens, and staff are used to questions about gluten and nuts, though shared fryers and kitchens are common. Pharmacists give advice and sell many antihistamines without a prescription, and spring brings heavy olive and grass pollen in the south. The cards follow a meal out in Córdoba, a scare on the terrace and a trip to the pharmacy.
