Venting to a Friend in Spain
Let off steam about a terrible day with the colourful expressions Spaniards really use.
Spaniards vent loudly and colourfully, often over a coffee after work, and friends are expected to listen, react and then drag you out to take your mind off it. The cards follow an after-work catch-up in Madrid: a bad day at the office, a nightmare boss, and a friend with troubles of her own.

- 1
¿Me dejas desahogarme un momento?
Can I vent to you for a sec?
- 2
Hoy ha sido un día de perros, de verdad.
Today's been a nightmare, honestly.
- 3
Estoy hasta las narices de mi jefe.
I'm fed up to the back teeth with my boss.
- 4
Es que me saca de quicio.
He just drives me up the wall.
- 5
Estoy completamente quemado con el trabajo.
I'm completely burnt out at work.
- 6
Siempre me como yo el marrón.
I always end up carrying the can.
- 7
Eso fue la gota que colmó el vaso.
That was the last straw.
- 8
Te lo juro, ya no puedo más.
I swear, I can't take any more.
- 9
Esa mujer me pone de los nervios.
That woman really gets on my nerves.
- 10
No es para tanto, no te pongas así.
It's not that big a deal, don't get so worked up.
- 11
¡Qué rollo de reunión!
What a boring meeting!
- 12
Siempre me está dando la lata.
She's always pestering me.
- 13
Estaba que me tiraba de los pelos.
I was ready to tear my hair out.
- 14
Venga, suéltalo, que para eso estoy.
Go on, get it off your chest, that's what I'm here for.
- 15
Es que llueve sobre mojado.
It never rains but it pours.
- 16
Ese tío me cae fatal.
I can't stand that guy.
- 17
Pasa de él, no merece la pena.
Just ignore him, he's not worth it.
- 18
Me hierve la sangre cuando pasa eso.
It makes my blood boil when that happens.
- 19
Míralo por el lado bueno.
Look on the bright side.
- 20
Vamos a tomar algo y a olvidarnos del tema.
Let's go and grab something and forget about it.
