Complimenting a Baby in Spain
Gush over a baby like a Spaniard: cheeks, hair, who he looks like and how fast he's growing.
Spaniards love babies and say so loudly, in the street, in the lift or in the park, with exclamations like '¡Qué cosa más bonita!' and '¡Está para comérselo!'. Diminutives are everywhere (manitas, cabecita), and saying who the baby looks like is almost obligatory. The cards follow a newcomer meeting a neighbour's baby at the front door, holding him in the park and seeing him again a month later.
