Eating Vegetarian and Vegan in Spain

Order meat-free food in Spain, explain what you don't eat and survive a family lunch built around ham.

Spain is getting easier for vegetarians, especially in cities, but ham, chorizo and meat stock hide in many traditional dishes, and older relatives may think tuna doesn't count as meat. The menú del día rarely labels anything, so you need to ask. The cards follow a lunch at a Valencia restaurant and a Sunday meal with a friend's grandmother.
