Losing Your Job and Bouncing Back in France

Tell a friend you've lost your job, take their pep talk, and talk about getting back on your feet with real French expressions.

In France people who lose their job register with France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) to look for work and claim unemployment benefit (l'allocation chômage), which needs the attestation employeur your company gives you when you leave. A rupture conventionnelle is a mutual agreement to end a permanent contract that still gives you the right to benefits, unlike simply resigning. Companies cutting many jobs at once go through a plan social, and among friends people talk about all this openly over a coffee, using tu.
